A Clinical Study on Eclampsia

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical as well as labor data of the eclamptic patients who were admitted and delivered their babies at the Dept. of Ob-Gyn, Busan National University Hospital, Baptist Hospital, and Maryknoll Hospital from Jan. 1, 1971 to Dec. 31, 1975.
A total of 244 cases were under study and the results obtained were as follows:
1. Eclampsia occurred in 2.07% of all obstetric patients.
2 Antepartum eclampsia was the commonest (63.2%), and then comes intrapartum and postpartum eclampsia in order.
3. Among the patients, 88.9 percent delivered vaginally while 11.1 percent delivered abdominally.
4. Eclampsia occurred much more commonly during winter and spring time than during summer.
5. The labor course in nullipara was significantly shorter than Friedman¢¥s mean values while that of multipara was practically same as the mean values.
6. The mean age of the nullipara was 23.8 and that of multipara was 28.3. The labor course in nulli para was getting shorter as the age increases but that in multipara had nothing to do with age.
7. Gestational period was 38.1 weeks in average in nullipara and 37. 1 in multipara.
8. As far as the number of convulsions, hemoglobin levels, and systolic pressures are concerned, they had no significant correlation to the labor course.
9. The weight of the newborn infants was 2,908g in average in nullipara and 2,669g in multipara. The labor course was increasingly delayed with the increase of the fetal weight.
